When Your Train Hits A Pig....

Seriously this did happen to me. I left Nice on my way to Basel Switzerland to catch a 12pm flight to Istnabul. I have never been on a train that was substantially late so when the ticket told me I would arrive by 8am I knew that was plenty of time to catch my flight...little did I know. We left the train station on time but 20 minutes into the ride we had to stop because of an electrical problem. It took them 30 minutes to fix and in the mean time they had some passangers switch trains while I sat and tried to not panic knowing there was still plenty of time even if I was 30 minutes late. Then about an hour after the train started again we stopped again.... this time in the middle of know where and they didnt tell us what the problem was. When they did finally start moving after an hour of waiting they told us that the reason for the delay that time was because the train hit an animal that was translated as a "pig" to me. I had no idea that the train would need to stop that long because it hit something let alone stop at all. So I did what I do best and I went to sort out my problem.

My problem was not sorted out even when I was crying to the conductor that since the train was now 2 hours late I would miss my connection to Basel Switzerland which would most likely end up with me missing my flight ti Istanbul leaving me stranded in Switzerland in 2 feet of snow with no money! The guy was apologetic and said he would try to help. 5 am come around and no one was helping me. I was panic stricken. I knew for sure I was going to miss the flight and had NO idea what I was going to do.

The train made it to Mulhouse France where I was supposed to get a connection to Basel at 7am but instead it arrived at 940 am. The conductor to whom I cried to handed me to one of the train security guys who signed my ticket so I would not have to go inside and buy a new one, then ushered me to a train that was leaving at 948 to Basel. That is where I met an angel... this guy who worked for the Mulhouse train station told me that instead of getting off at the Basel Station I should get off at the St. Louis Station and take the bus to the Euroairport where my flight was he said it was only a 10 minute train ride then a 2 minute bus ride and he was right! I made it to the airport at 1035am just in time to check into my flight! YAY!

I was overwhelmed with joy that I was going to make the flight, then the intercom came on and announced that due to the 2 feet of snow the flight was delayed and would not be leaving until 3pm.

I was hungry, tired, stressed out beyond belief and in desperate need of a shower yet I had to sit in the airport for an extra 3 hours/
