Well again it's such an adventure to go anywhere on the metro here. Its not that its a bad experience its just a mesh of "I don't know where to buy the tickets" and "I have no idea if this rechargeable ticket works," "how to we get into the metro line\out of the metro line." We walk from the Hostel to the metro piece of cake, then we go and buy a ticket but we are at the wrong station for the train, we need to get on the metro and go to the train station. Easy right? Well they have these rechargeable cards that you use and we assumed since they look the same that they worked for the Metro, Train, Bus, Tram etc. No all the cards look the same but when you put money on it its for a specific place. So when you know the rules the system is great! But we didn't know the rules hence why it took about 45 minutes to get to the Rossio Station and buy a 4 euro train ticket to Sintra Portugal after taking the metro.
Sintra was picturesque! It used to be a "royalty only" city which was home to all royal blood relatives of the royal family. There is this huge gorgeous castel up on top of a rocky hill way above the city. A perfect place for a king or queen to see their entire nation! It was misty and foggy while we were climbing the hill up to the castle so it gave a sense of enchantment. The path was easy but uphill the whole way and the ground was wet from it raining earlier in the day. There would have been some amazing views of the city below had there been less fog but we got a peak in here and there. The castle and the palace were expensive to see so we just took the scenic viewers choice and looped around the base of the castle. All and all the town is just a tourist trap for those wanting to see a piece of the 16th century.
