Upon entering Cordoba I didn't realize how historical the city is. Basically it's similar to Florence and Rome (however on a much smaller scale) in that it's buildings, mosques/cathedrals, roads, old town and citizenships date as far back as early Roman era.
The hostel we stayed at was right in the center of old town and like Rome and Florence the streets were narrow and cobbled. Our first day was spent walking through these gardens/fortress that was built as a palace originally I think for Christians. The palace was vast with high towers and scenic views of Cordoba but it was nothing when compared to it's gardens. Several ponds were set up each on a different level to create a stream between them. There were large gold fish in the ponds big as a cat honestly. The glory however goes to the orange trees. Tons and tons of orange trees everywhere with pink and red rose bushes around their base giving a lovely show of color to the otherwise green trees and hedges of the garden.
We continued to walk down along a wall built in Roman times and then back through the city for tapas and a siesta!!
