Raining hard when we got into Berlin. Nothing we can't handle right? We have lived in Eugene. Well add freezing cold weather, and high gushing wind to that every day and we come to the conclusion that Berlin is Freezing cold.We have heard of some other places with similar weather patterns where it was warmand automn weather then cold and freezing the next day so it leaves me wondering whats going on with the world.
Berlin is a very international place, where Munich was very German in anything and everything they do,Berlin is a bit more relaxed and mixed culture. Which is obviously do to the cold war split of Berlin where the east was taken over by Russia and the west split by France and the US and allies. We were able to walk along several pieces of the wall which still stand. We heard an interesting story about the wall, its tearing down is somewhat a mistake. (I had mixed feelings about this story I am not sure how much of it is correct but it is on wikipiedia).Anyway so before the wall was taken down some reporter was interviewing some political figure or something who had just returned from a vacation and had only heard rumors of travel restrictions between the wall beinglifted. So we told the reporter that that ment the wall must be coming down. Wellthe article was very popular and cause many riots so the wall had to be taken down. Regarless this massive wall that went through the whole city was a site to see.
We walked through the Brandenberg gate, the official closing of the wall. We continued down the Under bin laden a shopping street and saw the place of massive book burnings in the 1930's as well as the Berlin Cathedral and Museum Island. I really wanted to see the Queen Nefititi exibit but it was under construction. Its rained the whole time we have been here so we spend as much time inside as possible. We did go out one night and see a light show that was put on by the city.It was cloudy so the colorful lights reflected off the sky wonderfully.
Rain makes me sad and miss home however, I can't wait to get to warmer (at least less rain) weather. Berlin is such a large city I believe we only hardly covered the east side. Leaving plenty to explore the next time.
