I have yet to take a Spanish class in all of high school/college but today I was able to order Quinn and I two cheese sandwiches and water with an americano for me! In Spanish, as well as as for the bill and pay. I felt proud and accomplished, its a a lot easier then it seems. We walked around Madrid some more today, saw the Botanical gardens and the Prado Museum where the worlds best painting is on display, Las Meninas by Diego Velazquez. Google it, personally I dont think its really all that great at all but what do I know about art?
I´d like to comment a little about the people we are sharing a room with in our hostel, there are 12 beds in our room, 6 of which are accommodated by french/spanish douche bags. I really do mean that, they are loud, rude and smell awful, by awful I mean cigarettes and Axe body spray. I mean I guess you get what you pay for, our room was like 12 Euro a night, but these dudes get back from the bars around 5am, trip and fall over themselves while trying to get undressed and talk out loud. While on a negative topic I would also like to point out that the bathrooms in this hostel are fowl. They smell like the worst outdoor portapottys imaginable.
Ok enough with the negativity its making my trip sound like no fun but those aspects were really just small irritations and pet peeves of mine. We really had a fun day yesterday, we walked through Retiro park which used to be only reserved for the wealthy. There were some amazing fountains as well as a Arc de Triumph looking sculpture toward the end. I personally preferred Madrid between the times of 8pm and midnight there were friendlier people out that seems to be actually enjoying the city like we were. during the day the same people were seen hustling about and running into you trying to reach their destinations at the speed of light. At night the city really lights up, the buildings, which are almost all undergoing renovations due to Madrids attempt to win the bid to host the World summer Olympics in 2016, shine and sparkle! We finished out walk with some sangria and went to bed... for only 2 or 3 hours mind you since our shared room is awfully noisy between 2am and 5am!
Off to Barcelona!
