So we got lucky and are able to stay in Barcelona during this huge festival. It starts on the 23rd of September and the city is already getting prepared for it. Today we walked all around las Ramblas this long street with tons of people, shops, and street vendors. We were able to go to this market which had everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, to coffee, dried fruits and goat heads that you could buy. We were going to head down to the Beach today but we are pretty tired from all the walking around. We went to the grocery store and bought some pasta and bread/cheese again. I'm thinking a night in with some wine sound perfect right now. We would have done some more sight seeing today but its Monday which is like a Sunday i guess and most places were closed.
We walked by this cathedral which is still in the progress of being made, called Sagrada Familia. The guy who started building it is named Gaudi, he died in 1926 and the cathedral to this day is not finished. Its breathtakingly huge. There is such detail to the architecture on the side of the building that it took a good hour to actually walk around and see everything. the west end of the building tells the story of the passion of the Christ which was amazing even for me who really isn´t religious, the effects of the story where enough to render me somewhat speechless.
We wound our way through some back streets no wider then maybe 10 ft. We saw a roman wall dated back to the 4th century A.D. which is just sticking out in the middle of a plaza with buildings surrounding it on either side, really representing the uprising of civilization.
