So I had two races this last weekend, and amazingly came out first in both of them! The first race I had a huge advantage in that everyone else running this 2 mile loop was under the age of 12 or the mother of the under 12 year olds. Then on Sunday May 8th which was mothers day, there was a masters 6K in the Belgrade forest of Istanbul. It was amazing weather for a race. In reality I didn't think I did that good, the race was a trail, lots of hills but pretty clean cut. We ran through beautiful forests and had an amazing view of the mountains at one point. Its incredible that there is such a view just 15 minutes outside of a city full of 12 million people! My time was 31:34 seconds. About 7 in a half minute miles I guess. There was a big picnic afterwards and as we were sitting around waiting and listening for the awards to be given out... for some reason... my name was called.
The other girls had obviously already gone home, not thinking they were going to do the awards this way no one was really paying attention until the guy switched over to using English vs Turkish and then everyone was focusing on the podium. I have never been on a podium before nor have I ever gotten first place in my age group but it was enough to motivate me to try even harder! I have another race this time a 10K so we will see how that goes!
They are waiting for the other girls... rechecking the names... |
