Jamaican FOOD!

So here is a little bit about the food in Jamaica, which like Turkish food I both miss and love! There were several times when the locals would come together and make us a wonderful traditional meal cooked by them, on their stoves (sometimes rock made BBQ's) and then served us while we worked.
There were so many good things, so many new tastes and new combination's or ways to cook food! It was amazing!

The first photo is of fried green bananas. I actually had a little kid tell me that he hates bananas unless they are green and fried and at first I was like, ok odd. Then they made them for us and I tried them! WOW! YUM! I actually came home and bought the most green bananas I could find and fried them up!

Next is a photo of something called "bread fruit." Its not a bread and its not a fruit, its a vegetable.... think of it like soy, it absorbs the flavor of whatever you cook it with, the texture and taste is really hard to explain but they made a coconut sauce to eat with it and it was to die for!
Some other great jamaican foods are swordfish, jerk chicken, jerk shrimp, jerk pork... pretty much anything can be jerk. They make great lemonade and have some coconut milk which I was not a fan of. Its very bland, somewhat bitter, and just not what I was expecting at all. I did however eat an entire coconut while in Adelphi and that was amazing. Some of the other foods I became addicted to where cream of corn which is like oatmeal basically, and I was able to try sugar cane which is pretty awesome as well.
