Oktoberfest!
After leaving Switzerland really early in the morning we took a short 3 hour train ride to Munich Germany, passing through Zurich which seemed like a pretty awesome place to one day visit. We got to the Munich train station and set off to our hostel which was supposed to be within minutes walk to Oktoberfest...lets just say we never actually walked from the hostel to the festivities it was too many minutes to walk for me. This hostel was a joke, hilarious really, it is also low income residential housing. I mean really low income, immigrants were living in these small maybe 12 by 12 rooms where there were tv cables hanging in all directions and not to mention the Mafia style gang of 30, 40, and 50 something men that sat outside the door drunk by 10am. It was a little sketchy... pretty clean (not including the bathrooms) but doable. I immediately wanted to go down and see Oktoberfest. Upon getting closer I started to notice the attire of some of the people, Ladarhosens. A traditional outfit worn by the men of Bavaria. The women also had traditional dresses and aprons on of all styles and colors (some classy some trashy). Oktoberfest turns out is kinda like a huge fair. There were rides that tossed you up and spun you and dropped you, there was food, candy games and prizes. the main difference was the beer gardens and the beer tents. This experience is really only one that you can appriciate on your own. The first place were we got a beer was at a beer garden for Lowenbrau then we went to Haufbrau next. The waitresses that walk around and bring the beer can hold up to 11 mas drinks! thats 11 glass liters of beer and serve a table. YIKES!
